Cultural Contrast: From Falkirk to London (31March-2April)

A mini photo blog from my weekend trip to London with my good friend Marlee :)

Not sure whether Marlee will kill me for putting this picture up but it is the best one I have from our Street Vendor Churo experience (the other picture I have of my own Churo did not look appropriate).
This picture was taken in Camden Market on our first day in London. After walking around the array of eccentric stalls we found a Churo vendor mixed in with all the other food vendors who were serving pork and chinese and... I have to stop there because I am making myself hungry just thinking about it. A churo is a mexican sweet delicacy which I had never tried up until this day, we had ours freshly made and rolled in cinamon sugar then filled with half chocolate sauce half Dulce De Leche which is a sort of buttery toffee sauce. If you have never tried authentic freshly made churos before, I strongly suggest that you do because it is a delicious treat like nothing you have ever tried!

My 'new' vintage Dr Martin boots that I purchased on Brick Lane in a lovely little vintage shop. Brick Lane is full of little kitsch vintage shops selling everything from 1920's swimming costimes to 1980s denim jackets. I managed to barter myself 10% off these beauties!

No your eyes do not decieve you, that is chilli con carne on a pancake, a massive pancake might I add!
Although at first you might think those flavours do not go together, I promise you they do. This is an experience you cannot miss out on this life time. You can tuck into this one of a kind meal at one of London's My Old Dutch Pancake Houses http://www.myolddutch.com/Menu/A-La-Carte.aspx
The one that I visited was in High Holburn but there is also one in Kensington and Chelsea.

On our last day in London we visited The Tate, I have never really been one to admire modern art but  wonder if these polkadot balls come in house size?

Purchased a red velvet cupcake from one of the street market stalls on Brick Lane, looks delicious, but the sponge sadly had no flavour and the cheesecake icing was too savoury for my liking. Wish I had bought the Oreo cookie one instead. Always stick to your instincts when it comes to food!

One of the most striking things about London, I found, is all of the street art. I am an avid Banksy fan but there are all different kinds of wall art to be found all over London, like this little Ewok I found just off Brick Lane. I had to take a picture because I seem to be the only person in the world who finds Star Wars 6 to be their favourite of all the films.

On Sunday night we decided to visit Londons West End and see what the Soho bars were all about. We hit up a bar called B@1 where we enjoyed a couple of 2 for 1 cocktail deals before they closed at 11pm. Fair enough it was a Sunday but even in Falkirk the pubs stay open till 12pm! In the below picture we had a couple of Singapore Slings, way too strong for my liking especially when two minutes after we ordered them we were told to drink up for closing time! However the Pina Colada's we had prior to that were lush.

After walking through Soho just to make sure we weren't imagining how early all the bars close (except for one rather lively gay bar which I wanted to go into but Marlee declined), we walked past Piccadily Circus and into a little Italian for some late night pizza and beer. The pizza was incredibly and the corona with lime went perfectly with it for a late night chat about theatre and the future.

Not a very good picture but when you are stalking a Storm Tropper in Camden it's not always easy to get that perfect shot.

Doing the touristy thing on Monday, me in front of the Tower Bridge :)

I found that the best way to describe London is as an architectural mash up. From what I have seen there are buildings in every style, height and from every century you can imagine, all squished in together. From the below picture you can see The Tower of London and The Gherkin (is that it's official name?)

As soon as I set foot in London I felt like a small town girl in a big city. But now, I have embraced this melting pot of food and culture with open arms and I look forward to my next visit very soon.
Hopefully I will be able to return before September as Damien Hirst has an exhibit on at the Tate and the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour is now open.

Starting Over, Again.

I keep going through phases of getting my photography back on track and then getting lazy again.
So third time lucky?

Here's hoping :)
